The Ramblers in London have keenly supported calls for London to be declared a National Park City.  Earlier this year, the Mayor, Sadiq Khan, supported the campaign and declared that, from 2019 London will be the world's first National Park City.

National Park City LogoTo celebrate this, the Greater London Authority (GLA) is running the first ever London National Park City Week from 21st-29th July (https://www.london.gov.uk/what-we-do/environment/parks-green-spaces-and-biodiversity/london-national-park-city/london-national-park-city-week).  There’ll be over 270 of fantastic events and activities all week long as we celebrate London’s unique green spaces, trees, waterways and natural environment.  Events include:

  • walks and explorations to discover some of London’s lesser known green gems, footpaths and waterways
  • family activities in parks across the city
  • encounters with urban wildlife from butterflies to bats
  • opportunities to help look after local green spaces and find out what you can do at home
  • boat trips, bike rides, tree trails and more!

Ramblers volunteers are doing our part in making this celebration special by running 30 walks during the week (ie 11% of all of the events).  Details of all of the events we're running are on the Ramblers web-site at http://www.ramblers.org.uk/go-walking/find-a-walk-or-route.aspx?festival=NATIONAL+PARK+CITY+WEEK&tab=Walks

You can explore the full set of activities on the GLA web site here.
