• Route: Capital Ring
  • Section#: 6

Dog walkers on this section of the Capital Ring need to know that dogs are banned from Petersham Meadows between April and October. This is the time of year when the area is grazed by a small herd of Belted Galloway cattle.

The National Trust is responsible for looking after the meadows. The Trust explains that Grazing has been used to keep the meadows in shape for over 400 years, and is used today as the most environmentally friendly way to maintain this historic landscape and encourage biodiversity and nature to thrive.

There is a simple diversion which involves turning left by Petersham Nursery and following the track round to the river and then turning right along the Thames Path towards Richmond to rejoin the Capital Ring.
