• Route: Capital Ring
  • Section#: 15

On the 20th March we had a message from a group of walkers telling us that the repairs to the King George V lock gates had finished. They had found it possible to complete the Capital Ring via the riverside route.

This group also reported that the Northern lift at the Woolwich foot tunnel was still out of order but fortunately the Southern ascending lift was working.

Now we have had further news showing that the situation remains uncertain and confusing. A walker checked out the lock path on Monday 30th March and found that the cranes were still on site and that divers were in the water with the lock gates open and the path closed.

It seems that there are still works taking place on the outer gate so there remains a good chance that the route will be closed on some (or all weekdays) for the time being.  This is more of an issue for those arriving from the North as the status of the route only becomes clear after travelling some distance along a dead-end path.
