A local walker has sent us news of the most recent work on the gates of King George V lock. This has involved putting up more substantial safety barriers along the top of the lock gates. The barriers are about 1 metre high but at the middle the width is now around 70 cm so might restrict bike access a bit more than the old ones.
It does seem that for the time being the path should be open except when the lock is in use for vessel movement.
Royal Docks Waterways (RoDMA as was) have put up quite a lot of new signage as part of their rebranding activity including signs along the approaches to the lock gates.
