• Route: London Loop
  • Section#: 9

There is a lot of giant hogweed along the River Crane in sections 9 and 10 of the Loop.

In some places the plant is growing close to the path. During the summer these plants can become very tall and spread quite wide.

Walkers, especially those with kids and dogs, need to beware.

The Woodland Trust's advice is that the best way to avoid injury is to learn to identify this prominent plant. Walkers should avoid brushing through patches of giant hogweed and exposing themselves to plants which have been cut. It is important to avoid getting sap on the skin. The sap contains chemicals that cause blistering when exposed to sunlight.
