• Route: London Loop
  • Section#: 2

A group of ramblers has reported that the start of Loop section 2 is blocked. They came out of Bexley station to the High Street as usual and then turned right along the alley to start section 2. After walking under the railway bridge they found a metal gate barring the way at the point at which they expected to turn right alongside the railway to the cricket club.

This gate is just beyond the railway bridge and shuts off the length of the path that runs parallel to the railway beside the embankment.

Network Rail has closed the path here because there are major works being undertaken at the station. The closure is expected to last until near the end of 2023. The area beside the railway embankment is being used by Network Rail to enable access for cranes and other equipment and materials needed to instal a new lift and a footbridge over the platforms.

The map shows the way around the blockage. The normal Loop route is shown in red and the detour to avoid the blockage in black. Network Rail have put up a similar map describing the same diversion.

To start the walk you should now turn left along the High Street at the bottom of Station Approach. Cross over the end of Oxford Mews and then take the next left along Salisbury Road.

Follow Salisbury Road as it bends right and walk to the end of the road. Turn left at the T-junction with Manor Way. Walk ahead under the railway bridge. You join the normal Loop route by turning right with Manor Way when you reach the cricket ground. You have thus joined the Loop by walking along the access road which our walk guidance tells you to ignore if on the usual route.

You can now continue the walk by following the instructions from the second paragraph on page 4 of our walk guidance for section 2.
