Enfield Council has opened a new path between Rectory Farm Road and Hilly Fields, with signs along the river. A report from the Enfield Society includes an image of the fine viaduct under which the new path passes, and includes a map.
Volunteers have rewalked Section 17 for us so we can now describe the new route. This is how you can amend our walk guidance as currently described in the PDF you can download from this web site. We recommend this route which is very easy to follow. The path is in very good condition.
Text on page 6 (para 6) amended
You can now go through the gate to the right of the crossing and use the new track which curves right to another gate at a T-junction with Rectory Farm Road where you turn left at a new signpost with a finger pointing ahead in the direction of the new route.
Cut the rest of page 6 and all of page 7 - replace with this new text
Almost immediately turn right off the drive, pass two large logs and then go through a barrier. Follow the clear path ahead that is in the open at first. Follow the path as it curves right and keep ahead at a junction.
Continue into woodland and then walk under an arch of the impressive Rendlesham railway viaduct. Continue along the clear path to a T-junction with a tarmac drive where you turn left at a signpost with Loop waymarks.
Very shortly turn right at the next signpost. Continue along the path through woodland until you reach a T-Junction with a signpost. Turn right here downhill rejoining the original Loop route. Cross the bridge over the Turkey Brook
Jump to the text at the top of page 8 (paragraph 1) and continue with the existing guidance
After crossing the Turkey Brook, fork left to follow the main gravel track by the brook through Hilly Fields.
