We posted a news item about the closure of Boles Bridge in August 2023. It is unlikely that the bridge will be replaced before the summer of 2024.
The Council seems to have given up trying to fence off the bridge in the face of local direct action with wire cutters but the situation obviously could change quickly. Use of the bridge is dangerous and strongly discouraged.
The August news item described a detour to avoid the closed bridge. Member of the London Ramblers team have put up diversion notices and marked the route with stickers. You should find it quite easy to find their way.
To follow the diversion, take the steps to the church and then walk about 350 metres along Church Road to find a public footpath/cycle path on the left (High Lane) by the side of 8 Madge Hill. It is a pleasant path and eventually leads out onto High Lane road. Continue past a children's playground and then take a path on the left past Mayfields school which bends left to rejoin the Capital Ring route. You come to another bridge here. Just before this bridge you need to turn right towards Bittens Fields and Greenford which returns you to the regular route.
